A Least Of These board member recently shared with us an example of how hunger can affect many aspects of one’s everyday life. She volunteers in a second grade classroom at one of the schools in Christian County. She would help out with kids who were struggling to focus or needed a little extra attention. One day, she met Joey. Joey could not sit still and was extremely fidgety. She and Joey went for a little walk up and down the school hallways to burn off some of his extra energy. As they were walking, they were making small talk when all of a sudden, Joey said something this woman would never forget. Joey told her he was hungry because “it wasn’t my turn to eat last night.” Our board member stopped and looked at him and asked, “What do you mean, it wasn’t your turn to eat last night?” Joey said, “Sometimes we run out of food and my brother, sister and I take turns not eating.” As this woman sat at her dinner table that night, tears ran down her face, and “it wasn’t my turn to eat last night” kept playing over and over in her head. Unfortunately, Joey’s family is one of many families Least Of These assists monthly. This Christmas season, we are seeing upwards of 900-950 Christian County families who need your help. Over 80% of Least Of These’s funding comes from individual, business and church donations. As more and more families need food assistance, the need to receive more funds is imperative. In this season of giving and compassion for our hungry neighbors, will you please consider a tax deductible year-end gift to Least Of These, Inc.? Your gift will not only help provide food and services to struggling families, but it will give the least of these among us hope in a time of need.
